SERMON SUMMARY
It seems that when we look in the mirror and we see the same characteristic or quality in ourselves that we see in someone else, we’ve got another word for it and that makes it ok. When we look at someone else, then we name it for what it is. When someone else is acting high and mighty they are arrogant, but when we are acting high and mighty, we are just strongly self-confident.

This sermon is the final message in the series "Protecting Your Achilles Heel" and the focus is arrogance. Follow along as Gordon brings to life the story of the Prodigal Son and the Spirit of the Elder Brother. From home to the pig pen to home again, we see the heart of the loving father as he welcomes his son back, and we see the arrogant spirit of the elder brother who doesn't want to join the party.

There are those who have been raised in the church, served in the church, and given to the church, but somewhere in the process have developed the arrogant spirit of the elder brother instead of the heart of the loving father. The arrogant sprit of the elder brother doesn’t want to go to the party. Instead, they want a somber place of artificial religiosity where their arrogance can be covered up with a pretense of righteousness. Religion is a great place to cover arrogance. How many people never make it back to the Father’s heart because of the arrogant spirit of the elder brother that dominates in some churches?
