Gargoyle of Guilt

Audio sermon by Gordon D. Venturella | 28:23 min

TOPIC: Guilt
REFERENCES: Jeremiah 8, 1 Timothy 4:2
SERIES: The Church with an Attitude | Part 1

SUMMARY
The Gargoyle of Guilt weighs us down, hangs over us, robs us of enjoyable times, and breaths its energy sapping breath into every area of our life. This kind of guilt has a destructive purpose that focuses on damaging our self-worth and ultimately leads to depression. This kind of guilt does not come from God. There are times when we violate God’s moral code and our conscience, and we feel guilty and we should, but God doesn’t want us to live there.

Categories of Guilt:
1. Those who don’t feel guilty and should.
- we are born with a bent toward evil, our sin nature
- it will ultimately destroy us if it’s not brought under control.
- we can’t bring it under control by ourselves.

2. Those who feel guilty and should.
- acknowledge your guilt
- don’t run form it, don’t cover it up, don’t deny it.
- face it, confess it, agree with God in what it is and move past it.

3. Those who feel guilty and shouldn’t
- Perfectionists
- People Pleasers
